The Labourdonnais estate was founded in 1771. The park is home to a castle built in 1859, restored in 2010 and now converted into a museum. The Mascareignes rum distillery was built in 2006 and was renamed the Labourdonnais distillery. The distillery operates from July to December during the cutting of the cane and produces agricultural rum pure cane juice from a specially selected sourdough. The distillation method is modern and preserves the flavors.
